What are the differences between a formal dress and a semi-formal dress? Does the formal one have to be longer?

A: I would definitely say that a longer dress represents more formal, however, there are some long dresses that are semi formal and you can tell because they are more casual. The majority of semi-formal are short but dressy, but for formal attire it does mean very dressy, floor length. Formal and black tie are the same. |
